Sion Koliwada area is known for serving some of the most authentic Punjabi food, as its by-lanes are filled with Punjabi dhabas and restaurants. Chawla’s dhaba is one such place, serving some authentic chole-kulche that will make you feel like you are very much in Amritsar!
What Is It?
Punjabi dishes have various interpretations around the globe, but as one knows, the best served is ‘maa de hath da’ khana; and the closest to home is this little dhaba in Sion, serving some finger-licking chhole kulche. This pure-veg dhaba is owned by Gurjeet Singh. They serve Chole Bhature, Dal Makhani and many more Punjabi delicacies. They serve Indian Chinese and fast food too!
It’s the food here that will pull you over and over again and not the ambiance. The Bhature and Kulche served here are soft and freshly made. The mouth-watering dish is served with freshly cut onions and loads of fresh butter. The Kulche are stuffed with paneer masala and the Chole are full of Amritsari flavours. They have pudine ki chutney and mix vegetable pickle placed on every table. What more could you possible ask for, right?!

Of course, a full Punjabi meal is incomplete without a glass-full of lassi and Gurjeet knows it best. They have chaas or thick lassi to choose from and that just sums up the perfect-Punjabi meal.
We recommend you head to Chawla’s if you wish to satisfy your Punjabi taste buds (even if you aren’t a Punjabi!) Also, you could pay a visit to the nearest Gurudwara – Shri Dasmesh Darbar which is at a 5-minute walking distance (you could digest all that food!), to complete your perfect ‘Amritsari- food-trail’!
