Now your Mumbai-Pune and Delhi-Amritsar routes to get faster with the launch of the newest bullet train in India.
What Is It?
In a recent study, it was noted that people tend to prefer long distance flights instead of high-speed trains even though the fare for the trip remains similar. The only aim for train transportation was to make the time period lesser and that’s why bullet trains were introduced.
The new Mumbai to Pune bullet train will be reducing the 3 hour commute between the 2 cities to nearly 60-90 minutes. The railway line will be connected to Central and Western lines in Mumbai to make connectivity better.
What Are The Routes?
As the bullet train routes are being developed in India, Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Delhi-Amritsar routes are being built. India’s first ever bullet train will run from Mumbai to Ahmedabad with 12 stations in the route – Mumbai (either Bandra or Kurla), Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati. It will be traveling adjacent to the coast for the most part of its journey, and only 13 km will be covered on flat land. Otherwise, the train will run on an elevated track for 468 km, 21 km underground and 7 km under the sea.
The second route which is developing is the Delhi to Amritsar route. It will be a 4,500 km high-speed rail network and the journey will be completed within 2 hours.

What Else?
The average speed of the bullet train will be 250 km/hour, hitting nearly 350 km/hour for top speeds as opposed to express trains in India right now that run on 60-90 km/hour. Apart from that, the plan is to establish 35 trains for the Mumbai to Ahmedabad route (70 trains per day) so that securing a seat won’t be an issue for the public. The official fares for the ride aren’t out yet but it should be between ₹3000 to ₹5000 per seat. The trains will have clean bathrooms which will be wheelchair accessible, and comfortable seats. It is estimated that the bullet train will be functional by 2022.
