As part of a campaign to relieve coronavirus-hit communities across the United Arab Emirates, the Burj Khalifa is all set to be transformed into the ‘World’s tallest donation box’, wherein the facade of the world’s tallest building will be lit up, one pixel at a time, to honor each donation made to this amazing cause.

Burj Khalifa Will Light Up With Every Donation Made For COVID-19 Relief

Known as the ’10 million meals’ campaign, the Burj Khalifa has asked companies, entities and the public to purchase lights of the Burj Khalifa, for as little as 10 dirhams each, to collectively donate about 1.2 million meals to low-income individuals and families in the UAE.

For each 10-dirham donation that is made, one of the building’s 1.2 million LED lights will be illuminated, representing a meal, which will be provided to someone in need.

According to a statement released by the Dubai media office, “Representing donations as lights beaming on Burj Khalifa reflects the hope that small acts of kindness will bring to less fortunate communities as the country continues its battle against the pandemic.”

Burj Khalifa Lights Up For Solidarity

By illuminating 1.2 million lights on the facade of the world’s tallest building, the campaign aims to show solidarity and cohesion among UAE’s diverse society, which is made up of millions of foreign workers, many of whom have found themselves out of work or unpaid.

The skyscraper is also known to display solidarity when crisis of any kind hits any country. In the past, it lit up for Australia when bush fires ravaged parts of the country, and even for China and Italy when they were hard hit by the coronavirus.

The UAE has so far reported about 14,730 coronavirus cases, including 137 deaths. However, last week, it eased lockdown restrictions that were put in place to curb the spread of the disease.
