The snow-caped summit of Switzerland’s Matterhorn mountain was recently illuminated with the Indian flag to lift up the spirits of all Indians amid the prevailing calamity. Responding to the beautiful gesture, our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has quoted, “The world is fighting COVID-19 together. The peak of the most photogenic mountain in the Zermatt village of Switzerland is now getting illuminated with messages of inspiration every night. The lights arts on the peak, created by artist Gerry Hofstetter, comprise words of motivation like ‘hope’, ‘stay home’ and ‘dream now travel later’, among many others. Initially, along with these phrases, the illustrations also included a heart symbol, the Italian flag and the Swiss flag. Now, the artist has added flags of other countries too like India, the US, the UK, Japan and Germany.

The illuminations now take place every night from sunset to 11 P.M. During this dark hour, the world really needs a ray of hope.
