22% More Indian Women Are Choosing International Travel, Here’s Why

International travel by Indian women is increasing, with women venturing out into the world for adventure, self-discovery, and milestone events. More international travel by Indian women is motivated by various reasons, vividly depicting the changing ambitions and changing lives of women. Among the top reasons, solo travel, group tours, and holiday experiences are some of the key drivers that have prompted women to undertake adventures around the globe, as revealed by Atlys statistics.

  • Solo travel accounts for 20.6% of the requests in destinations like Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, and Europe, which are popular as they are safe, economical, and rich in culture. Women travellers desire to explore themselves and be independent.
  • Group travel accommodates 35% of bookings, as women mostly take their vacations to celebrate bachelorette, birthday, and career milestone parties. Dubai, Bali, Bangkok, Singapore, and Malaysia are on top because they offer nights out, shopping, and easy accessibility.
  • Experiential travel captures 28% of bookings, with women booking foreign concerts, yoga resorts, cooking classes, and cultural festivals.

Financial independence is the main motive of this trend. With more women becoming financially independent, they are spending on travelling that mixes pleasure with self-growth.

Younger women, especially those under 35, enjoy adventurous and spontaneous travel, whereas women aged 35-45 prefer organised itineraries. Despite this, women are avoiding traditional sightseeing and choosing to experience things in depth.

This travel revolution is something beyond a sense of adventure—it’s a measure of empowerment. In the words of Mohak Nahta, Atlys’ Founder & CEO:

“We are witnessing a whole generation of women who see travelling as a tool for self-growth and self-expression. Whether it’s an internal realization for cultural immersion or a friend getaway to commemorate a birthday, these journeys are transforming the way women tackle travel and its place in their lives.”

Besides personal growth, international travel by women in India is creating international links and creating horizons. Since global travel is becoming more accessible, this trend will certainly continue.
