On August 26, Andhra Pradesh created a world record for the largest beach clean-up drive in the port city of Vishakapatnam. Over 22,000 good samaritans gathered to remove over 76 tonnes of plastic waste from Vizag beach. The mega beach-clean up drive is the largest of its kind carried out in the world. It covered a stretch of 28 km from Gokul beach to Bheemli beach. Here’s everything about it.
World’s Largest Beach Clean-Up Drive In Vizag
Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation conducted the mega beach clean-up drive in Vizag in collaboration with Parleys for the Ocean. This US-based global network is on a mission to create awareness of the beauty of the oceans and how they are in critical danger. Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy flagged off the drive. He revealed that 76 tonnes of plastic waste dumped on the sand of Vizag beach has been collected.

Andhra Pradesh To Be Plastic Free By 2027
The Chief Minister further announced that Andhra Pradesh has entered an MoU with Parleys for the ocean. The reason behind this is to make Andhra Pradesh plastic free by 2027. According to Deccan Herald, the Chief Minister stressed the fact that the environment and economy are two sides of the same coin. So, the Andhra government is taking an inclusive approach to protecting the environment. As 70 per cent of the world’s oxygen comes from marine plants, Reddy revealed that saving oceans is everyone’s responsibility.
