This weekend is turning out to be quite scary for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Some regions in and near these places were struck by earthquakes. Though these were low-intensity earthquakes, still these regions experienced back-to-back tremors in a span of just 24 hours. The jolting of these earthquakes in various places began on Saturday and continued till Sunday morning. Here are all the updates you need to know about these incidents.
Deets On The Consecutive Earthquakes Jolted In Jammu & Kashmir And Ladakh
Starting on 17 June, a total of 5 earthquakes hit Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh with mild intensity. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the recorded highest magnitude is 4.5. Gladly, there are no reports of damages, major injuries, or casualties following these tremors. It was around 2:03 PM on 17 June, when the first earthquake of 3.0 magnitude jolted in Jammu and Kashmir. Ramban district in J&K is the epicentre of the first earthquake, according to an India Meteorological Department official. He also added that it jolted at a depth of 5 km and was epicentred at a latitude of 33.31 degrees north and 75.19 degrees east Longitude.

It was 9:44 PM on Saturday when the second tremor hit a place about 271km northeast of Leh, Ladakh, according to the National Center for Seismology. This struck with the highest magnitude of 4.5. Epicentred at 35.74 degrees north latitude and 79.84 degrees east longitude, the depth was 10 km.
Another earthquake was reported just after some time after the second tremor. It was around 9:55 PM when Doda in J&K experienced an earthquake of a magnitude of 4.4. Unfortunately, this was the 7th tremor experienced in the Doda district in just 5 days. IMD officials stated that it had a depth of 18 km at 33.04 North latitude and 75.70 degrees east longitude.
Updates On The Next Two Tremors On Sunday:
Doda District once again suffered 2 earthquakes very early on Sunday morning. It was 3:50 AM when the fourth earthquake struck Doda. It was of a magnitude of 4.1 with a depth of 11 km. The epicentre was 32.96 degrees north latitude and 75.79 degrees east longitude. The fifth and last mild-intensity tremor was felt at 5:22 AM at a latitude of 33.01 degrees north and a longitude of 75.78 degrees east. It hit a depth of 10 km.

No one suffered any damage because of the back-to-back tremors. Though no losses were reported, it is still a cause for concern.
