The latest survey by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), in collaboration with Grant Thornton, has highlighted a significant shift towards digital convenience among Mumbai’s bus commuters. According to the insightful report titled ‘Connected Commutes 2024,’ nearly 47% of bus riders in Mumbai are now opting for city travel apps to book their tickets, underscoring a remarkable evolution in urban mobility.

The ‘Connected Commutes 2024’ report is based on feedback from over 1,400 participants who provided valuable insights into the growing reliance on mobile apps for bus travel. The survey reveals a compelling trend towards digital engagement in Mumbai’s public transport sector:

  • User-friendly interfaces of travel apps draw 26% of commuters. These apps are designed with intuitive layouts that simplify the booking process.
  • For 27% of respondents, the ability to view real-time seat availability is a key factor. This feature helps commuters plan their journeys with greater precision.
  • 21% of users valued accurate, real-time tracking of buses. This capability allows commuters to monitor their buses’ locations, reducing wait times.
  • A smaller segment, 12% of respondents, appreciates personalised tariff options. This flexibility in pricing adds another layer of convenience.
