The heavy rainfall in Mumbai caused as many as 53 flights, both domestic and international, to be cancelled at the Mumbai Airport on Monday. Due to low visibility and continuous showers, the airport had to divert 27 aeroplanes to nearby airports. Furthermore, 82 flights were delayed in arrival, while 166 were delayed in departure since Monday morning.

According to The Financial Express report, as per FlightRadar24’s data, a 76% delay was reported in departures with an average delay of 35 minutes. Airlines like IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, Qatar Airways, and Alliance Air had to cancel flights on Monday morning due to bad weather.

Low visibility due to heavy rainfall can make it difficult to land an aeroplane and increase the risk of runway incursions. Keeping the safety of passengers in mind, the airlines and Mumbai Airport decided to suspend operations for a few hours on Monday.
