On April 9, the pilots were caught ranting about low salaries using offensive language on the 121.5 MHz frequency This is used for emergency communication for the aircraft during distress. IndiGo Pilots Caught Venting About Low Salaries On Emergency Channel
For those of you who don’t know frequency 121.5 MHz is widely used by aircraft for emergency communications. It’s monitored closely by air traffic controllers who stay in the vicinity of the aircraft. For normal air to air communication among pilots of different aircraft, 123.45 MHz frequency is used. This is not monitored by air traffic controllers. On April 9, at least seven IndiGo pilots were caught using abusive language during the emergency communication, venting about low salaries.

A few days before this incident because some pilots were planning to hold a strike against the pay cuts imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic, IndiGo suspended them. The airlines, just like many others cut the salaries of pilots drastically by as much as 30 per cent. And pilots are disgruntled about this. However, on April 1 IndiGo announced to increase the salaries of piots by 8 per cent. Moreover, the budget Indian carrier said that another 6.5-per cent salary hike will be given in November.
