Most of us know about a century old, Sunder Nursery which is located near the crowded Nizamuddin Basti area. The nursery is a tranquil world in itself. But now, there’s one more reason to love this place as it’s recently transformed into a beautiful heritage park. Yes, nature lovers now have one more place in Delhi, other than Lodhi Garden to spend those serene evenings.
Sunder Nursery is so beautifully recreated that it will make you feel like this sprawling, lush green gardens and a fantastic array of flowers is welcoming you with open arms. It’s so beautiful that it even got listed in the first annual list of the World’s Greatest Places.
This picturesque place designed by architect Lt. M Shaheer, has a 550 metres ornamental central vista starting from the entrance zone of Humayun’s Tomb. The garden inside the park is inspired by the Mughals and has a beautiful lotus-shaped marble fountain *just imagine*!
Not just that, there’s also a lake located on the northern edge of the central vista with walkways, pavilions and seats where you can sit, relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature at its best.
It also has an amphitheatre which has been designed to host many exciting upcoming events.
Looking at the before and after picture of this place and the gardens on the sign boards, one can’t help but admire the efforts made here. Thousands of people have worked over a decade to make this place what it is now.
Spreading over 90 acres, this park has 300 unique tree species and colorful flowers. And this park is a home to many species of birds as well. Trust us, it’s a treat to the eyes.
So, if you’re looking for a place to unwind or go for a run on the weekend, you have a new heritage nursery-cum-garden waiting for you. Sunder Nursery serves as the perfect refuge from the regular chaos of the city, located right in its heart.
