New Odd-Even Scheme To Come Up In Delhi To Promote Social Distancing

Whenever we hear about the odd-even scheme in Delhi, usually a transport-related scheme comes to our minds, that the Government had implemented to improve the air quality in the Capital. This scheme used to allow vehicles on roads ending with even and odd numbers on an alternate day basis. Every time, the scheme was successful in bringing down the AQI index by an impressive number. Now, in the wake of COVID-19, a different kind of odd-even scheme has been launched in the city to promote social distancing. Read on to know more.

What Is It?

The new odd-even scheme applies to the crowded wholesale markets of Delhi. The development minister of Delhi, Gopal Rai, recently conducted a meeting with the officials of all the wholesale markets. He came up with the following rules to ensure social distancing in the market areas.

  • Traders can sell fruits and vegetables only on alternate days.
  • Vegetables can be sold only between 6 AM to 11 AM, and fruits from 2 PM to 6 PM.
  • The general public will have to follow special markings with a six-foot gap among them.
  • There will be special task forces to ensure that the regulations are being followed.
