Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And this perfectly describes the efforts put by every teacher in our country as they continue to impart knowledge to their students amid the lockdown. While students in urban areas resort to online classes, what about those residing in rural areas? Not all school are equipped with tools to follow digital learning. Children in rural areas of India can’t afford a phone or laptop for their studies. So, in a move that paves the way for village schools, Asha Marathi Vidyalaya in Maharashtra’s Solapur decided to take classes on the streets. With the help of a local artist, the teachers painted the entire syllabus on common walls across the village. Students now huddle up on the streets while teachers use the painted walls to teach their curriculum. Now that’s what we call a brilliant idea!

So with the help of a local artist, the school painted murals related to the syllabus on common walls across the village. A teacher at Asha Marathi Vidyalaya school, Ram Gaikwad states to AFP “Since most of the families lack resources to educate their kids digitally, we had to come up with an innovative method to keep children invested in education.”

Syllabus On The Village Walls Include Complex Trignometry To Language Learnings

Every day students gather in small groups at different walls of the village. They either sit or stand and maintain social distancing while taking notes. The walls have murals painted on them ranging from complex trigonometry to language learning like English and Marathi. Yashwant Anjalakar, a  3-year old child from the village narrates “When my mother sends me to buy milk, I walk through the village and look at the lessons on the walls.” We salute the teachers of this Solapur school for taking such painstaking efforts to ensure there’s no pause when it comes to learning. Meanwhile, here’s a video of what kids feel about this lockdown.
