A Video Goes Viral Of Water Overflow From AC Duct In Sanghamita Express

A video went viral of water guhing out of the AC vent in Sanghamitra Express which runs between Bengaluru and Patna. The person who recorded the video can be heard saying ‘Ye bathroom ka paani hai'(This is toilet water). What is more saddening is that this was not a general class compartment where this mishap happened, it was actually 1AC which is supposed to be the best class in the entire train and it is also the costliest.

The water that came out soaked all the bedsheets, mattress and the belongings of customers of that compartment. The ticket collector of that train is seen trying to get someone to handle the situation. Stranded passengers waited for long until the next station arrived. Maintenance and help only came after the train reached the next station. There was no mechanic or any other railway technician on board to help. The passengers had to get their luggage out as it was drenched in the water and had to keep them on the seat.

After the video was posted Suray Rai, who was the passenger on board, it went viral and the Indian Railways, the railway minister Piyush Goyal and the Modi government were criticised on Twitter and all other platforms. Some of the interesting tweets are below which actually question the functioning of the government and the railways.

This tells the poorly maintained state of Indian Railways in their very best coach. I cannot imagine the situation in general coached and in what conditions people have to travel. The Indian Railways have to own up to this and make sure that this does not happen in the future. This is just one incident, a lot of people have found the food to be stale, the berth to be unclean and there is no or zero cleanliness in these coaches.

Railways are the cheapest mode of travel but that does not mean people will have to suffer all this in their journey. They have paid for the seat and they deserve better services. After this incident, the least that Railways could do is offer compensation to the passenger and make sure they have technicians on board in long journey trains.
