The Oxford Hindi word of the year should reflect the passing year’s ethos, mood, or preoccupations. The word chosen by an advisory panel of language experts is a term of cultural significance. In a statement, Oxford Languages said when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s COVID-19 recovery package, he emphasised the need of becoming become self-reliant as a country and as a society. Soon after the PM’s announcement, there was a massive increase in the usage of ‘Aatmanirbharta’.
