The construction work for Abu Dhabi Airport’s Midfield Terminal Building continues to happen in full swing. And if news reports are to be believed, then the inauguration of the newest terminal building may take place as early as December 2023. The newest terminal building is expected to hold tens of millions of annual passengers, over 120 escalators, designer retail outlets, and more such exciting features. Doesn’t it sound exciting? The latest addition of Terminal 3 may shut down Abu Dhabi’s Terminals 1 and 2. And recently news about the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) opening was published by Construction Week. As such, the news cited reports of the Airports Council International World (ACI World) report on this tentative development. According to the report, the Midfield Terminal Building may open on December 2, which also happens to be the UAE National Day.

However, it’s worth noting that project stakeholders haven’t formally commented on the ACI World report regarding the opening dates.

This comes after Sulaiman Al Siksek, the chief programme officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said that the construction work on the MTB was more than 97% complete in November 2019. For those who aren’t aware, this project is spread over whopping 74 2000 square metres. Once completed, the newest terminal is expected to be able to accommodate up to 11,000 passengers per hour, which rounds about 45 million passengers annually.

As mentioned above, the Midfield Terminal Building (MTB) spans a massive area. About 28,000 square metres will be allocated as retail and food and beverage space. Additionally,  30,000 square metres will be devoted to lounges! Not to mention, it may also feature 145 elevators, 46 travelators, and 106 passenger bridges. With the plan to become one of the largest facilities of its kind in the region, the design envisions holding tens of millions of annual passengers.
