Indian Embassy In UAE Extends Suspension Of Regular Passport And Visa Appointments

Indian expats in the UAE hoping to sort out passport renewals, visa applications or document attestation this week will need a little more patience. The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai (UAE) have extended the suspension of regular appointments for these services for another day, meaning only emergency cases are being handled until July 1.

Indian Expats in UAE Face Another Delay in Passport and Visa Services

The pause was originally meant to last for five days, from June 26 to June 30. But that timeline has now stretched slightly further as officials continue work behind the scenes on a major change to how these services are delivered in the UAE. The embassy hasn’t announced a new date for normal appointments just yet.

If You Had An Appointment Planned, You’ll Need To Wait A Bit Longer

Passport renewals, family visa applications and document attestations tend to pile up before holiday travel starts. So the extension may come as frustrating news for some people who were expecting services to return immediately.

Instead, officials said further details about services from July 2 onwards will be shared soon through official channels.

Emergency Cases Are Still Being Accepted

The good news is that urgent cases are still being processed.

Emergency passport requests, visas, attestations and certain consular services remain available directly through the Indian missions in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai during the transition period.

That said, routine applications and standard appointments remain unavailable for now.

A Bigger Change Is Happening Behind The Scenes

The temporary disruption is linked to a switch in service providers across the UAE.

From July 1, passport, visa and attestation services for Indian nationals will move to a new operator, taking over from the companies that previously managed these applications for years.

The new provider is expected to handle applications through a fresh appointment system and a wider network of service centres across the country.

For many Indian expats, the hope is that a few days of inconvenience now will eventually lead to a smoother process later.

But for anyone planning a passport renewal this week, the advice is fairly simple: hold off on making the trip for now and keep an eye on official updates instead.
