Wizz Air’s comeback to Abu Dhabi will have to wait. The airline has postponed the restart of six Abu Dhabi routes from late October to January 10, 2027, which could catch out passengers who booked after its September announcement.

Which Routes Are Affected?

On September 10, Wizz Air said it would restore flights between Abu Dhabi and six European cities from October 25 and 27: Krakow, Katowice, Sofia, Cluj, Larnaca and Budapest. All six now move to January 10.

The routes were part of a wider return to the region, originally planned as 32 weekly flights across eight UAE routes, six to Abu Dhabi and two to Dubai.

Why Has Wizz Air Delayed The Restart?

The airline points to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) latest security update and continued restrictions on Iraqi airspace. With that airspace closed, its Airbus A321neo flights would need longer routes and technical refuelling stops. Combined with current fuel prices, a spokesperson said the routes are commercially unviable under present conditions.

EASA maintains conflict-zone advisories covering Iraq, Iran, Lebanon and parts of the Gulf. Its Jordan advisory has been extended to October 16, and Wizz Air has suspended Jordan flights until October 25.

What Should Passengers Do?

Wizz Air says affected customers will be contacted about their options and that it will keep monitoring conditions ahead of the new date. If you booked one of the six routes, watch your email and check your booking status.

Other Airlines Are Staggering Their Returns

Wizz Air is not alone:

  • Singapore Airlines: daily Dubai service now resumes October 24
  • Cathay Pacific: Dubai and Riyadh suspensions extended to January 31, 2027
  • British Airways: Dubai from November 3; Abu Dhabi suspended until winter 2027-28
  • Lufthansa: Munich to Dubai from October 25, Frankfurt from October 26
  • SWISS: Zurich-Dubai from October 27
  • Austrian Airlines: Vienna-Dubai from December
