Abu Dhabi’s Terminal A Reduces Boarding Time To 3 Seconds & Check-Ins To Just 10 Seconds⁣. Here’s How

Biometric Systems have been introduced to Terminal A of the Abu Dhabi International Airport. With this introduction, the aim is to offer a faster and smoother way for passengers to make an easier transit through the gate. As it happens, they will now also be able to move from the kerb outside the terminal to the gate in just 12 minutes!

Transit At Abu Dhabi International Airport Can Be Done In Just 10 Seconds

According to a news report by the National News, it was revealed that this has been possible due to the advanced airport technologies and streamlined processes. Moreover, their self-service baggage drop-off kiosks also take just 30 seconds! Immigration can be one of the most time-consuming processes at an airport. However, at this terminal, this will also be done in just 10 seconds. Additionally, the flight boarding at the gate will also require a minimum of three seconds!

Yes, this was revealed by the Chief Information Officer at Abu Dhabi Airport, Andrew Murphy during a media tour of the newly opened terminal. This is definitely an upgrade as the three immigration procedures would take about a minute at the old terminal. So passengers will be able to enjoy a seamless transition process! Yes, this will make their journey at the airport faster and smoother.

Use Of Smart Technologies Make Things Easier

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that this development comes when the new terminal has been deemed critical for the next phase of expansion plans of the Abu Dhabi Airport. As such, it’s also keeping up with changing times. Yes, especially when passengers worldwide are adopting the use of smart technologies to smoothen up the choke points at airports. This has also been clear from the report by SITA, which is an IT provider for the air transport industry. It should be noted that Terminal A currently has five main biometric touchpoints. This means these include auto-enrolment, self-service check-in and backdrop, immigration counters, E-gates, and aircraft boarding gates. Now these will expand to nine touch points next year, which will also extend to retail areas and airport lounges.

But How Would Smoother Transit Be Achieved?

Not to mention, it would allow passengers to use their biometric profile for a smoother experience at duty-free shopping or even when they’re renting a car! Furthermore, there are 14 self-service bag drop units that are used by home carrier, Etihad Airways. And there are also 17 biometric boarding gates at the terminal. Moreover, these will be available for travellers in 2024 at the terminal.

To achieve smoother transit for people, the airport works with immigration authorities and other government entities to collect biometric data of travellers. So, this auto-enrolment process is extended to all UAE nationals. It also includes any traveller who has passed through any airport in the country in the last seven years, and of course UAE residents.

As a result, this will allow them to check in online and even use a self-serve desk at the terminal that can detect their biometrics just through simple facial recognition.
