After Criticising Air India’s Meal, Freddy Birdy Praises Food On Recent Mumbai-Delhi Flight

For most travellers, airline food is usually something to be endured, not enjoyed. But Air India’s in-flight dining pleasure on a recent flight from Mumbai to Delhi was a surprise treat for popular internet personality Freddy Birdy (Instagram handle, @freddy_birdy). He posted a lively review of the experience, featuring a meal that was not only tasty but also surpassed expectations in all respects.

As shared by Freddy Birdy, the main highlight of the meal was the Butter Pepper Garlic Prawns, accompanied by a side of tasty fried rice and sautéed vegetables. Unlike the usual bland or overcooked airline meals, these prawns were cooked to precise perfection.

They possessed just the right size—not too big to lose flavour, but not too small to be unsatisfying. Every bite was soft but with the perfect amount of bite, not falling into the trap of being either too chewy or too soft.

Getting to this level of excellence on an airline tray is exceptional, and the effort that went into keeping taste and texture at high altitudes was admirable. The prawns were well-seasoned, with the pungent flavours of butter, pepper, and garlic exploding in each bite. It was a meal that one would find in a high-end restaurant and not on an aeroplane.

He further mentioned that the biggest surprise of the meal was the bread rolls. Airline bread is normally dry and uninteresting, but this was not the case. The rolls were soft, fresh, and slightly chewy, with a warm comfortingness that made them even nicer.

As Freddy Birdy rightly noted with a touch of humour, carbs tend to spread happiness, and these rolls spread it just the same. Whichever way one had them, with butter or with the prawn sauce, they were a wonderful addition to the meal.

His post on social media generated a lively debate online, with many users going on to express their lovely surprise at the quality of Air India’s meal.

One commenter wrote, “Wait, airline food can really be this good? May have to change my stance on in-flight meals!” Another said, “Finally, an airline that gets it that food at 35,000 feet can be both flavourful and fun.”

Some experienced travellers weighed in, saying Air India’s newly revamped catering had been uniformly excellent on recent flights.  The near-unanimous response was one of pleasant surprise, many saying this was a move in the right direction for in-flight dining.
