Prayagraj is all set to host Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025. Ahead of this, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared the Maha Kumbh area a new district in Prayagraj. With this move, the state government hopes to streamline the management and administration of the massive mela that is held once every 12 years.

In a landmark decision, the Uttar Pradesh government has formed a new district called Maha Kumbh Mela. According to The Times of India, his new district includes four tehsils and 67 villages. The decision is being viewed as a significant administrative move that will help manage the upcoming massive religious event a lot better.

As per reports, this move will ensure seamless coordination of logistics, law enforcement, and facilities for the pilgrims who will be attending the Maha Kumbh Mela in 2025. The district magistrate of Prayagraj, Ravindra Kumar issued an official letter on Sunday announcing this decision. According to the government letter, this order will come into force with immediate effect.

Here’s an extract from the official letter explaining the boundaries of the new district, “The area of the revenue villages and the entire parade area described in Annexure-I will be included in the Mahakumbh Mela District/Mela Area.”

The letter further states, “In the Maha Kumbh Mela district/Mela area, the Mela Adhikari, Kumbh Mela, Prayagraj, will have the powers of Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate and Additional District Magistrate under Section-14 (1) and other relevant sections of the Indian Civil Defense Code, 2023 and all the powers of the District Magistrate under the said Code or any other law currently in force and will have the right to exercise all the powers of the Collector in all categories of cases and to perform all the functions of the Collector under Section-12 and other relevant sections of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006 (as amended by the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code (Amendment) Act, 2016 (U.P. Act No. 4, 2016)) by appointing an Additional Collector in the said district.”

The Maha Kumbh Mela is held once every 12 years. Maha Kumbh 2025 will begin on January 13 and conclude on February 26, 2025, in Prayagraj. As per NDTV, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Uttar Pradesh on December 13 to review the preparations for this iconic mela.

Maha Kumbh is believed to be the world’s largest public gathering and collective act of faith. Over 400 million pilgrims are expected to visit this mela next year. Maha Kumbh starts on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti and ends on the day of Mahashivratri. The Paush Purnima bath is scheduled for 13 January 2025. The mela will conclude with the last bath on the day of Mahashivratri on 26 February 2025.
