Ahead Of Mahakumbh In 2025, Prayagraj Airport In UP Seeks Permission To Operate International Flights 

In January 2025, Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh will host the Mahakumbh Mela, a UNESCO-recognised festival that features the world’s gathering at a place. Held every 12 years, this festival celebrates the Samudra Manthan or the legend behind the churning of the ocean to extract amrit of nectar of immortality by the devas and asuras. Ahead of the Mahakumbh in 2025, Prayagraj Airport is seeking permission to operate international flights. Here’s more to it.

Mahakumbh Host Prayagraj May Operate International Flights At Airport

As per a report by Hindustan Times, Prayagraj, the host of the Mahakumbh Mela next year has appealed to the city’s administration and the director of civil aviation for approval to commence international flights. The Mahakumbh Mela will be held in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26, 2025. Haridwar, Nashik and Ujjain will also celebrate this extravaganza.

Prayagraj Airport authorities sent a letter that states that operating international flights from the airport will benefit a large number of pilgrims from foreign countries. Also, after the completion of the new terminal building, the airport will have the capacity and necessary amenities to operate international flights. The HT report further informs that airport director Farrukh Ahsan has listed the additional facilities and arrangements needed at the civil airport for the Mahakumbh Mela.

A Budget-Friendly & Convenient Travel Option For Pilgrims

Currently, travellers and pilgrims from Prayagraj need to travel to Varanasi and Lucknow to catch flights to other countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka. This includes flyers wanting to travel to Gulf countries. To make the flying experiences hassle-free for global travellers, Prayagraj Airport is awaiting permission to operate global flights. This won’t just increase connectivity and comfort but also act as a budget-friendly travel option. Currently, the Prayagraj Airport is undergoing an extension for the Mahakumbh.

Also, Farrukh Ahsan stated to HT that many facilities at the airport have been improved. So, if the airport is permitted to facilitate international flights, flights to many countries can be initiated from the Prayagraj Airport.
