The Directorate General of Civil Aviation ( DGCA) has slapped Air India with a whopping fine of ₹10 lakhs as it disallowed boarding of passengers with valid tickets. The denial was a violation of DGCA norms and the aviation regulator has called the matter ‘unacceptable’. According to an Indian Express report, DGCA has stated in a media release that Air India was found to violate the necessary compensation regulations in Delhi, Hyderabad and Bangalore airports. Following the violations, DGCA issued a show-cause notice to the airline.

Airlines To Pay Compensation Of Upto ₹20,000 To Traveller For Denying Boarding: DGCA
The new guidelines of DGCA state that if an airline denies bearing to a traveller with a valid ticket, it will have to pay a compensation of up to ₹10,000 to the traveller unless it arranges an alternative flight within 60 minutes. If no arrangement is done beyond the next 24 hours, the airline needs to pay a compensation of ₹20,000 to the traveller. The compensations will be applicable if the traveller holds a valid ticket.

DGCA Said That It Would Take More Actions If Issue Is Not Resolved
According to reports, DGCA has ordered the Air India to rectify the problem as soon as possible by implementing the necessary measures. More actions will be taken if the airline fails to comply, according to the aviation regulator.
