The aviation sector is undergoing serious flak after reporting incidents of malfunctions, salary issues with employees and even fewer staff. Recently, certain airline companies have come under the radar of the aviation ministry for charging extra from flight passengers. Airlines companies like IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoFirst are charging an amount of ₹200 from their customers for issuing boarding passes at the check-in counters. The Ministry Of Civil Aviation tweeted to point out the additional charges being levied on the flight passengers.
No Charges For Issuing Boarding Passes
Airlines charging an additional amount from the passengers for issuing the boarding passes are against the Aircraft rules of 1937, the Civil Aviation ministry stated. The ministry added that airlines cannot charge this additional amount as it is not within the tariff amount mentioned in the Aircraft Rules 1937, under Rule 135. In May 2020, the ministry made it a mandate for flight passengers to do web check-in. The passengers were asked to get the boarding pass during the web check-in.

Airlines Must Guide Passengers For Web Check-In
The Ministry of Civil Aviation also pointed out, in May 2022, that airlines must facilitate, guide and encourage flight passengers for web check-in. It further said that airlines must help the passengers with bag tag printing too. The MOCA also told airlines to refrain from charging an amount or levying fines on passengers for not doing timely web check-ins. They also said that the airlines are not following the rules and regulations drawn. Also, the charging of an additional amount is not in line with the order issued by the ministry.
Reacting to the situation and order by the ministry, an IndiGo spokesperson also told that the airlines will comply with all the rules and orders issued by the MOCA.
