Talented cricketer and India’s accomplished batsman Ajinkya Rahane sat down with our Editor-In-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for a delightful episode of Sunday Brunch. As they feasted on mouthwatering Maharashtrian dishes, Kamiya couldn’t resist flaunting her Marathi speaking skills to the impressed cricketer. He also opened up about the sacrifices his parents made to help him pursue a career in cricket. Ajinkya Rahane also took us back to his first train journey navigating tumultuous Mumbai locals with wide eyes and a heart full of hope. Here’s a glimpse into his heartwarming first solo Mumbai local journey.

Ajinkya Rahane’s Father Followed Him On First Solo Mumbai Local Journey

A man of talent, humility, sportsmanship, and courage, these words perfectly describe cricketer Ajinkya Rahane. From captaining the Indian cricket team to becoming one of the most accomplished batsmen, he has done it all! He credited his parents for shaping him into the humble human and skilled cricketer he is today. Additionally, he emphasised the values and strength they have instilled in him throughout his journey.

While recalling his childhood struggles as a middle-class boy, Ajinkya shared his first journey travelling solo in the Mumbai locals. He said, “My dad had asked me to travel from Dombivli to Shivaji Park stadium alone. He said that he was not getting a leave. I was only seven years old with a heavy kit on my back in an overcrowded Mumbai local.” 

Ajinkya adds that in reality, his dad had followed and observed him through another compartment. The heartwarming moment assured that his dad looked out for his son and always had his back. The cricketer grew emotional recalling this heartwarming moment. He recognised his father’s unwavering sacrifice and will to make him independent as the foundation of his success.

Ajinkya Rahane Also Holds A Black-Belt In Karate

We are used to seeing Ajinkya Rahane bare his cricket prowess on the field, but did you know that he is also a black belt in karate? Not only is our beloved Ajju a GOAT in cricket but also was the youngest black belt karate champion in his training centre.

He spoke fondly about his days of karate and said, “We were always taught to excuse ourselves from fights. The lessons taught here were only for self-protection and not violence.” Help us catch a breath as we are tired of appreciating this humble cricketer’s accomplishments!
