The inaugural day of the festival saw a buzz of excitement as VIPs and honey enthusiasts gathered to celebrate all things apiculture. Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, along with the key players from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), couldn’t help but marvel at the diversity of honey varieties on display. From the rich, velvety Sidr honey to the naturally crystallised Samar honey, the festival’s stands were dripping with the finest the UAE has to offer.
Beekeepers and passionate honey producers are showing off their finest creations, while the public gets an exclusive peek into the world of honey production. Discussions about the role of beekeeping in sustainable agriculture and its economic potential are taking centre stage. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais highlighted the festival’s role in boosting local industries and providing employment opportunities, while also aiming to strengthen ties between producers and consumers. If that’s not a sweet deal, we don’t know what is!
Sweet Competitions And Golden Prizes

Of course, no honey festival would be complete without a little friendly competition and this event is no exception! With categories like Best Sidr Honey, Best Honeycomb, and Best Crystallized Honey, the stakes are pretty high. The competition is fierce, and the cash prizes are even sweeter. Beekeepers will have to bring their A-game to win in these categories, with each sample subjected to rigorous tests for moisture, glucose and even the dreaded HMF levels (don’t worry, it’s just a fancy term for honey quality!).

It’s not just about bragging rights, the festival also offers workshops and training programmes for beekeepers looking to hone their skills. As honey production technology advances, this event aims to prepare local producers to take on the world stage. It’s all about supporting the local economy, celebrating heritage, and taking the art of beekeeping to the next level.
So, head over to Expo Al Dhaid, grab a jar (or ten) of the finest honey, and let the sweet times roll!
