Amazon is reportedly laying off many workers in its Fresh Grocery stores in the US. The multinational company is taking this step because of its restructuring plan, according to a report by CNBC. Under this plan, the company is cutting the jobs of the workers involved in the zone lead roles. Amazon stated this significant decision and confirmed it on Thursday. Here are all the necessary details about this layoff.

The MNC decided to lay off the zone lead position from the company. It is a store-level management position in the Amazon Fresh grocery stores. The main job responsibilities of these workers are to train employees, deal with customer issues, look over associates, and more. As of now, the company has not shared any specified number of workers getting laid off due to this restructuring plan in the US.

Hundreds of employees in the US Amazon Fresh grocery stores are about to lose their jobs, according to The Washington Post. These employees are going to work at their position till Tuesday. For all these hundreds of workers, Amazon has provided job opportunities in several new positions within the company. And for those who do not want to shift to a new position and instead decide to leave the company, they are getting severance packages.

As of now, there are 44 Fresh grocery stores in the US. Most of these stores are located in Illinois, Virginia, California, and Washington State, according to a report by ABC News.

Amazon has been taking such steps for some time in the present economical situation. From layoffs to planning to shut down stores, the company took some major decisions in the past. Now, the priority of the company is to rein in costs from all kinds of operations. Groceries are also a part of the operations of the company.

Prior to the layoffs at the Fresh Grocery stores, the company laid off hundreds of employees in Whole Foods back in April. The reason was quite similar back then as well. The company cut so many jobs because of its restructuring plan.
