Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra took to X (formerly Twitter) to give a shout-out to a home bakery in Mumbai run by an Israeli woman. The business tycoon posted two pictures of a freshly prepared babka and the poster of the bakery. In his caption, Anand Mahindra reveals that his Israeli friend, Sagi, who lives in Mumbai, is a very lucky man.
His wife, Inbal turned into an entrepreneur and has recently launched Babka & More, a home bakery in Mumbai. Serving authentic Israeli bakes and more, this home bakery delivers all across Mumbai. Anand Mahindra himself admits to being an official addict of the lemon loaf at Babka & More. He also urged Mumbaikars to check out Inbal’s Instagram page, order soon and join the feast.
What’s on the menu of Babka & More? Well, you’ll find the signature Israeli babkas that come in cinnamon, chocolate and Nutella flavours. They come in two sizes for ₹600 and ₹1000. If you have a sweet tooth, then the loaf cakes mustn’t be missed. What’s So Special About The Jewish Speciality, Babka?
For those specifically seeking eggless bakes, Babka & More has those too. Babka is part bread and part cake. The name is believed to have originated from the Polish word “baba” translating to “grandmother”. In the 19th century, the babka prepared by grandmothers in Eastern Europe were different from what it looked today. The swirls were tighter and the babka was drier.
Interestingly, the dish gained popularity thanks to the American sitcom, Seinfeld in 1994. Since, then, babka laced Jewish bakeries as a mandatory bake for foodies looking to venture into Jewish cuisine. The braided pattern and luscious layers of chocolate and fruit make it one of the most Insta-worthy bakes.
