Cockroaches are often attracted to the strong scent of coffee, and when stored in the warehouse, they can get mixed with it. With the large number of cockroaches in coffee, it becomes difficult to remove all of them. So, the FDA approved 10% insect-related contamination. This matter first came to notice in the USA, but a similar situation is possible in other countries too, and it can be in your favourite brand. To avoid this, ensure you consume coffee from the trusted brands or try locally sourced coffees.

As per the news.com.au report, the cockroaches in coffee first came to notice in 1980. It was because of a professor who used to travel miles for a fresh coffee. And when his colleagues asked him the reason, he stated that he had an allergic reaction to pre-ground coffee similar to one he had with cockroaches.

This information, which came into light recently, has shocked coffee lovers. Many are now pointing out how it’s beneficial to use the whole coffee beans rather than pre-ground because of the comparatively low chances of insects.
