According to NDTV, two single-engine planes–Cessna 172S and Lancair 360 MK II–collided while upwind of runway 12 at the Marana Regional Airport in Pima County, Arizona. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reached on-site to investigate the crash.
The incident occurred on February 19, around 8:30 AM (local time) and resulted in two fatalities. Many photos and videos from the scene are circulating online and they show thick smoke around the area. After the crash, Marana Airport was shut down for operations.
The NTSB shared that both planes were smaller fixed-wing single-engine planes. Furthermore, according to the preliminary assessment, they found that the Cessna “landed uneventfully”, while the Lancair “impacted terrain near runway 3 and a post-impact fire ensued”. More details about the incident are awaited.
