As A Kid, Ammy Virk Enjoyed Non-Vegetarian Only On Diwali

Some people in this world only eat vegetarian food and some only eat non-vegetarian. There is another special section of individuals who eat non-vegetarian food occasionally. They call themselves vegetarians most of the time, however, they indulge in meat dishes on special occasions. This section of vegetarian-but-eats-nonvegetarian-food once in a while is never guilty of doing so. The Punjabi munda, Ammy Virk, belongs to the latter section. He told our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, that he only ate non-vegetarian food during the festive season of Diwali on this Sunday Brunch episode.

During Ammy Virk’s Childhood, Non-Vegetarian Food Was Prepared On Diwali

While talking about food habits, Ammy spoke about how people have stereotyped Punjabis as individuals who only consume non-vegetarian food. He said that there are a certain amount of Punjabis who love to relish non-vegetarian food. It was then countered by the remaining larger section of Punjabis who strictly eat vegetarian food as he said, “Mostly joh Punjab ke log hai voh vegetarian hai.”

This further made Kamiya curious whether our guest had been strictly vegetarian since birth and asked the same. Ammy made it clear that he consumed meat dishes during his childhood and also for some specific dietary plans after entering the glitz and glam industry. He recalled how his uncle would prepare a flavoursome chicken curry only during the Diwali celebrations.

He added that his uncle prepared the dish with much love and care. So much so, that it tasted exactly the way it was done in his hometown! Diwali festivities paired with a village-style chicken curry and lots of family time was an ideal way to celebrate this auspicious festival for Ammy. It is now a wholesome memory for him!

Continuing on the same topic, he told us that his parents were against cooking meat dishes inside the house. Their food culture was mainly vegetarian. However, they easily added eggs to their meals, especially during the winter season in Punjab.

Ammy would either consume eggs as breakfast before going to school or two eggs with a glass of milk before getting a good night’s sleep. This was especially followed during the winters as eggs are a rich source of proteins and contain healthy fats and multiple nutrients. This helped to regulate his body temperature and boost immunity.
