Atul Kulkarni is a man who has established himself in the Hindi and Marathi cinema. He can also work in films made in different languages as a producer, actor and screenplay writer. He is extremely respected and is known for portraying great characters on screen. On this episode of Tere Gully Mein, Atul Kulkarni is being interviewed by Arohi Thatte in Girgaon, Mumbai. We were curious to know about his sweet love story and how they got married. Turns out, Geetanjali Kulkarni, his wife proposed to him at India Gate in Delhi!
Where Did Atul Kulkarni’s Wife Propose To Him?
Atul Kulkarni got married to Geetanjali Kulkarni in 1996. She has worked in Marathi and Hindi cinema. They met at the National School of Drama and this is the place where their love bloomed and now are happily married. Both of them were very sure of their career path.
We wanted to know what was the sweet love story behind this beautiful couple. Atul slightly smiled and told us, “Basically she proposed me and I took my time to say ‘Yes’.” This doesn’t sound like him at all; he actually made his then-girlfriend and now-wife wait! This is during their time spent at the National School of Drama.
He continued that she proposed to him in front of the India Gate in Delhi. Atul thought that this gesture was one of the most dramatic things that can happen. They are both from theatre and film backgrounds, this sweet and cute gesture from Geetanjali Kulkarni shouldn’t feel like a dramatic one. We are sure it was a romantic one as he finally did say yes, after taking some time obviously.
He Had To Do First Year Of This Course Thrice
We wanted to know if acting was his first career choice as he came from a business background and his father was always skeptical about him being in the film industry. He told us that entering the film industry was not his first choice. He also told us an interesting thing, he had taken up engineering in Pune, a different career path from his current career.
Then he also jokingly said that he enjoyed studying the first year of engineering so much that he did it thrice. We know what you did Atul, it was not out of passion but you were compelled to do it thrice. During engineering, he realised that he was not cut out for it and decided to drop out. He later joined for a Bachelor’s degree in Arts, back in his hometown. Joining the world of Arts made him inclined towards theatre and the acting world and since then he has been unstoppable. Therefore, he went to the National School of Drama, aced the teachings and met his beautiful wife.
