Author Shares Near Death Experience With 11-YO Daughter In Uber; Writes “Truck Driver Fled Without Checking On Us”

Dhaval Kulkarni, an author and journalist based in Mumbai, recently met with an accident in an Uber on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. He was with his daughter who is 11 years old. Luckily, both of them, as well as the driver made it out of the accident without sustaining any severe injuries. He later took to his social media and shared the entire story of what transpired before as well as after the accident.

Author Dhaval Kulkarni Meets With An Accident In An Uber

In a lengthy post on X (formerly known as Twitter), author Dhaval Kulkarni shared how he recently met with a terrible accident. The accident took place on November 19 as he was on his way back from Pune after picking up his daughter. In the post, he shared that he initially wanted to take the train but since his ticket was waitlisted, he was forced to book an inter-city Uber.

The driver, who was nice for the most part, kept yawning and driving rashly. Kulkarni even asked him to stop the car and wash his face to freshen up. After descending the ghat and reaching Khopoli, he said that there was a truck right in the middle of the carriageway. Kulkarni yelled at the driver to watch out but to no avail. Their car then crashed into the truck’s rear end.

He turned to see if his daughter sitting at the back was alright and though she was a little rattled, she was mostly okay. Kulkarni even mentioned that they were lucky that no other car tail-ended them as many were speeding by. He went on to say that the truck fled soon after the accident without checking to see whether everyone was okay.

Other Details About The Accident He Was Involved In

After they got out of the car, he saw that his daughter had a bruise on her leg. He also noticed that his speech and breathing were painful and laboured. Then, he went on to highlight how multiple stakeholders were responsible for the accident. He first said that the highway police were responsible because the truck was in the wrong lane.

He also held the RTO, MSF and IRB responsible because even as was doubled up in pain by the car, first-aid was not called. Kulkarni even said that Uber should make speed-governors mandatory on their platform and should implement AI-based tech to monitor whether the driver is on call or not. He even stated that drivers need to rest between inter-city travel as they are only humans.
