Diwali the festival of lights was celebrated in a brighter, grander and beautiful manner in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya. The city where Lord Rama from the Hindu epic Ramayan resided and came back after his 14-year exile was lit with hundreds of diyas to welcome him. Ayodhya this year was lit in a similar fashion and entered the Guinness Records as over 4 lakh diyas were lit for the Deepotsav Event this Diwali. This was the largest display of oil lamps or earthen lamps in this historical city. The Uttar Pradesh Government, tourism department and a university in collaboration,  outdid itself and broke its own record this year compared to last year where the city was lit by 3.51 lakh diyas.

What’s More?

The Guinness Certificate read “The largest display of oil lamps was achieved by the department of tourism, the government of Uttar Pradesh and Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya Awadh University (both India) during Deepotsav 2019 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India on October 29, 2019”. The event was termed as amazing by the Guinness World Record.

The Chief Minister of Ayodhya, Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation for various development projects costing around Rs 226-crore in the temple town. He even addressed the gathering and announced that his government is trying to build the kind of Ayodhya that Lord Rama had envisioned. This Diwali was indeed very memorable for the ancient Indian temple city.

Festive Diwali Indeed

With Uttar Pradesh entering the Guinness Record yet another time for its massive celebrations, we’re pleased about one thing. Diwali is the festival of lights and not just the festival of crackers. So Uttar Pradesh has lit up Ayodhya with 4.04 lakh diyas and not tons of crackers, hosting a larger than life cracker display. In a similar fashion, Delhi this year too had a gorgeous colourful laser light event organized for the public which is an interesting cracker free celebration. India celebrating Diwali, UP breaking records during the festival of lights in a cracker free, environment-friendly yet sparkling manner, is truly a joy to behold. And we couldn’t be prouder for UP’s achievement.
