Bappi Lahiri, a name synonymous with disco in India passed away at Mumbai’s CritiCare Hospital on February 16. The music composer and singer popularised disco music in India in the 1980s and 1990s. He was 69 years when he breathed his last. Bappi Lahiri delivered blockbuster songs like ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Yaar Bina Chain Kaha Re’ and
‘Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost’, to name a few of his blockbuster hits. Interestingly, not many know that the legendary musician was a massive foodie. Bappi Da loved Chinese cuisine and phuchkas from Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial. Read on to know the late singer’s favourite dishes.
Bappi Lahiri Loved River Fish Cooked In Mustard Oil
In a previous interview with The Telegraph India, late music composer and singer Bappi Lahiri revealed his food preferences. He stated that while he was a vegetarian for certain days of the week, his favourite in non-vegetarian was fish. Bappi Da loved river fish. Every time he visit Kolkata for shows, the legendary musician piled big packets of ilish, bhetki and rui fish varieties. Mumbai’s chital fish stuffed with masala and fish cooked in mustard oil were his favourites.

Chinese Cuisine, Tiger Prawns, Phuchkas From Victoria Memorial Were His Favourites
Bappi Lahiri, the self-admitted Bengali Babu told The Telegraph India about his love for phuchkas from Victoria Memorial, which he would ask his staff to bring home for him. Other favourites were street food snacks were jhaal muri, tel bhaja and aloo posto. He usually dined out with his family, enjoying a Chinese meal, relishing tiger prawns. Bappi Da confessed to The Telegraph India that his most romantic meal was with his wife Chitrani in Venice, where they savoured pizzas, garlic bread and Italian food, after a gondola ride, with a symphony playing in the night. The legendary musician Bappi Lahiri will be missed as we pray the Almighty gives strength to his family.
