There’s something quite fascinating about encountering dopplegangers of iconic personalities in the food space. From a chaat wala who resembled former Delhi CM Aravind Kejriwal to a PM Modi-look-alike Pani Puri wala to a kheer vendor from Pakistan who shared a striking resemblance to US President Donald Trump, the Internet has lapped up dopplegangers in the food space. The latest to make an entrance is a San Francisco-based restaurateur who Netizens have identified to being a Mahatma Gandhi look-alike. Not Dandi March, it’s Handi March time!
US-Based Chef Is A Mahatma Gandhi Look-Alike
Globally-acclaimed chef, Ranjan Dey of San Francisco’s popular New Delhi Restaurant, looks eerily similar to Mahatma Gandhi. Running the immigrant-owned legacy business for the past 36 years, Dey has now been sharing reels, personally inviting followers to try out the North Indian delicacies that have been celebrated for years at his restaurant. His fun-loving way of introducing followers to the vibrantly named dishes has struck a chord amongst many.

But what Netizens can’t have enough of is Chef Ranjan Dey’s striking resemblance to Bapu, the ‘Father of our Nation’, Mahatma Gandhi. The frail man with piercing eyes, round spectacles and grey French beard has an affable smile. Needless to say, the comments section of his reel is a “punny” take on when Gandhi meets gourmet. The comments read: “Baapu?”, “Handi March”, “Uncle I saw you on a 500₹ note”, “Gandhiji” and more. A commenter even asked him if his birthday is a dry day.
Netizens Surprised To See “Bapu Cooking”
Some even joked that Dey looked like actor Ben Kingsley, who played the non-violent politician in the award-winning biopic, Gandhi. A few customers of the restaurant picked up on the resemblance after Indians flooded the comments section of Dey’s reel. They started seeing things in a new light.
