It has been over a week since it began to start raining incessantly in West Bengal. Massive downpours have been reported in most parts of the state; leaving citizens in a major state of distress. So many towns and villages are going through the difficulties of waterlogging and further damage due to the heavy rainfall for so long. In between all parts of the state, North Bengal is witnessing the harsh sides of the monsoons.

We have been hearing such scary news about Sikkim’s flash flood and the consequences of the disastrous situation. North Bengal is in very close proximity to Sikkim and the aftermath of the state’s flood is leaving its impact in North Bengal to some extent.

About 5,800 people of Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong have been evacuated already, according to a report by LiveMint. This huge number of people being rescued from the flood-like situation is only for North Bengal. Ananda Bose, the West Bengal Governor CV is going to visit the affected places in North Bengal on October 5.

Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister has talked about the distressing scenario of the northern part of the state and expressed her concerns. She said that she is concerned about Kalimpong, Darjeeling, and Jalpaiguri. She is also taking a look at all the things happening in North Bengal from her home.

All parts of West Bengal are witnessing incessant rainfall. Along with North Bengal, measures have also been taken for other places as well. The government shared in a statement that 5,018 people have been evacuated in districts such as Bankura, Hooghly, Howrah, Paschim Medinipur, and Purulia. In the southern areas of the state, about 190 relief camps have been established to help people trapped in the ongoing scary rainfall.

Mamata Banerjee told Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi and Home Secretary BP Gopalika to prepare a team of senior officials and send them to the affected parts of the state. Along with the team, she has also asked HK Dwivedi to start the functioning of a 24-hour control room. This is to let people share their complaints related to rainfall and floods.

From Nadia to Kolkata, all areas are waking up and sleeping to the sounds of continuous rainfall. In between all the ongoing preparations for Durga Puja, it is pouring so badly.
