Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport is on a mission to sensitize flyers on the need for waste segregation. The airport which witnesses one lakh flyers daily has to handle waste of up to 20 tonnes (18,143 kg). With the telos to keep the airport litter-free, read on to know what’s Bengaluru Airport’s course of action.

Bengaluru Airport Focuses On Waste Segregation & Litter-Free Space

A spokesperson for the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) threw light on the matter to The New Indian Express. He stated that Bengaluru Airport has recently started a campaign to combat littering and promote waste segregation. The telos of this campaign is to preserve a cleaner environment, keep the premises clean and support sustainable actions.

The massive anti-litter campaign at the airport sensitises flyers to dump sanitary waste, cigarette butts, paper cups and food waste in designated waste bins. For this, authorities have pasted anti-litter messages across both terminals. You’d find sign boards in check-in counters, boarding gates and at many eateries around. This campaign wishes to tackle the eye sore of paan spittle and cigarette butts across the terminals and the premises.

360-Degree Communication To Create Awareness

For this, the airport has conducted a massive training programme for all its employees. Bengaluru Airport not only wishes to keep its premises clean but also actively works towards recycling its waste. Its Terminal 2 is a harbinger of sustainability, a green airport with promise. The spokesperson echoes that for optimal recycling, waste segregation and a litter-free environment are crucial.

A dedicated team of 800 staff members are working around the clock to make sure Bengaluru Airport is spick and span. While passengers will not be levied fines for littering, they will be made aware of their responsibility to keep the airport clean. A 360-degree communication strategy is in the works to communicate with passengers about the need for responsible behaviour and waste segregation.
