Bengaluru: Helmet Camera Footage Shows Auto-Rickshaw’s Reckless Zigzag Driving; Netizens Say, “Need To Introduce Seat Belt For Autos Too”

A recent video circulating on X (formerly known as Twitter) has sparked concern and debate over the issue of rash driving in Bengaluru. The footage, captured by a helmet camera, showcases the reckless driving of an auto-rickshaw, or “auto anna,” as they are commonly called in Bengaluru city. The caption, “Auto annas please have mercy on our people,” reflects the frustration and worry of many viewers.

Camera Footage Shows Auto-Rickshaw’s Reckless Driving In Bengaluru

The video begins with the auto weaving through the narrow, wet streets of Kalyan Nagar. The driver of the auto is not speeding, but rather, zigzagging dangerously across lanes, cutting sharply in front of other vehicles. This erratic driving is especially concerning given the wet road conditions, making the situation even more precarious.

As the auto manoeuvres through traffic, it becomes clear that the driver is taking unnecessary risks. The narrow roads offer little room for error, yet the auto-rickshaw continues to dart between vehicles. The video highlights the inherent dangers of such driving, particularly in an area as congested as Outer Ring Road (ORR), Bengaluru. Many online have speculated that this stretch could be near HSR Layout, another area known for its busy and often chaotic traffic.

Staged Or Real?

However, what adds another layer to this video is the biker who is closely following the auto. The biker seems to shadow every move of the auto, maintaining a close distance as it zigzags through the streets. This raises an interesting question: Is the biker simply an innocent party caught in the flow of traffic, or is this a deliberate attempt to capture the auto’s reckless driving?

Some viewers suggest that the biker might be staging this dangerous dance with the auto-rickshaw to document the irresponsible driving. On the other hand, others argue that the biker’s proximity to the auto could be equally hazardous, contributing to the overall chaos on the road.

The discussion around this video is not just about the speed at which the vehicles are travelling, but more about how they are doing so. The reckless zigzagging and lane-cutting exhibited by the auto is a clear violation of traffic norms. Such behaviour puts everyone on the road at risk, especially in wet conditions where braking distances are longer, and the chances of skidding are higher.
