In an unusual incident, a Bengaluru man was caught sticking QR codes in washrooms of Bengaluru metro stations. The startup entrepreneur took guerilla marketing to a whole new level to sell chocolates. However, the 31-year-old man made a grave mistake of pasting QR codes on the sly in the washrooms of metro stations. And he was arrested for this mistake.
Man Pastes QR Codes In Metro Washrooms In Bengaluru
According to a report by The Times Of India, Arun, a 31-year-old man who is a resident of Talaghattapura was arrested for an unusual reason. The man was caught sticking QR codes in the washrooms of Deepanjali Nagar station by the housekeeping staff on April 23. Chandrashekharaiah, the assistant security officer of Deepanjali Nagar metro station filed a complaint. He stated that Arun was caught pasting stickers at around 2:45 pm.
On being caught, Arun said the QR code was for selling products like chocolates. He demonstrated this by scanning the QR code which directed him to an Instagram page displaying an ad which read, “dize coupple chocolet.” The tagline of his stickers read, “Impress your loved with dzire. SCAN ME! 2”.
Budding Entrepreneur Arrested For Taking Guerilla Marketing To The Next Level
On April 22, the man travelled on the Green Line from Silk Institute to Rajajinagar Metro Station and pasted stickers. The next day he commuted on the Purple Line from Kengeri Metro station but was caught on at Deepanjali Nagar. Arun got down at each station, rushed to the men’s washrooms and stuck the stickers right above the urinal commode. The strategic sticker placement ensured could see the catchy taglines and instantly scan the code.
Arun stated to police officers that he didn’t know it was illegal. Metro officials stated to TOI that any kind of advertisement on its premises needed permission. Moreover, all advertisers need to follow certain procedures and pay the Metro to display ads. A cop stated to TOI that post elections he would question the man again.
