Bengaluru is gearing up for a major infrastructure revamp as the Karnataka government announces a 114-kilometre elevated corridor to tackle the city’s ever-growing traffic issues. The corridor forms a vital part of the government’s broader urban mobility strategy, which also includes a ₹4,000 crore upgrade in waste management. With this elevated road project, authorities aim to enhance travel convenience while supporting the city’s expanding road network.

The proposed 114-km elevated corridor is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion across Bengaluru. The government aims to construct this corridor above existing roads and junctions to allow seamless flow of vehicles without the interference of ground-level traffic signals or bottlenecks. According to The Times of India, the plan includes multiple entry and exit points to offer flexibility in navigating different parts of the city.

This corridor complements the already approved 16.7-km north-south tunnel road project that connects Hebbal Junction’s Esteem Mall with the Central Silk Board Junction. The tunnel project, estimated at ₹17,780 crore, has already received cabinet clearance. Together, the tunnel and elevated corridor aim to transform how commuters travel across Bengaluru’s key zones.

Planning Around Vidhana Soudha

The government plans to manage traffic in and around central administrative areas with special caution. As reported by The Times of India, the design of the elevated corridor ensures there are no exit points within a one-kilometre radius of the Vidhana Soudha. This decision comes as part of an effort to prevent heavy congestion around the state legislative building.

The corridor will connect high-traffic areas with improved entry and exit ramps, giving commuters better access while keeping traffic away from sensitive zones.

Part Of The Larger ‘Brand Bengaluru’ Vision

This project forms a key component of the state’s broader vision to upgrade urban infrastructure under the ‘Brand Bengaluru’ initiative. As reported by Business Standard, the Deputy Chief Minister described the state budget as a model for India. It includes not only elevated roads but also new metro lines, double-decker flyovers, and over 700 km of road expansion.

According to The Times of India, tenders for the elevated corridor project will be floated soon. Authorities expect construction to commence in phases after the bidding process.
