The Bengaluru traffic police have announced restrictions on the movement of certain vehicles across five major flyovers in the city, citing road accidents, traffic congestion and safety concerns. The new rules will come into effect from September 4, with restrictions on one of the flyovers beginning a week later. Read on to know more.
Movement Of Certain Vehicles Restricted Across Bengaluru Flyovers
According to the Indian Express, in a statement issued on Sunday, the traffic police said the restrictions would apply to the BGS flyover, Peenya elevated corridor, Electronic City elevated corridor, Double-Decker flyover between Silk Board and Ragigudda, and the International Airport flyover between Sanjeevnagar Cross and Vidyashilp Junction.
Karthik Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru, told the portal that the decision was based on several factors, including road safety, flyover design and width, reducing the severity of accidents, preventing congestion caused by vehicle breakdowns, managing traffic at entry and exit points, handling emergencies and improving the safety of pedestrians and two-wheeler riders.

Which Flyovers Face Restrictions?
Along the BGS Flyover in Bengaluru, heavy goods vehicles will not be allowed to use the BGS flyover. Other light goods vehicles will also be restricted during peak hours, from 7 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 10 pm every day. Passenger and goods auto-rickshaws will be completely prohibited on the Peenya Elevated Corridor. Heavy and medium goods vehicles will not be permitted between 7 am and 11 am and 4 pm and 10 pm. Two-wheelers and autorickshaws will be barred from using the International Airport flyover. Goods vehicles of all categories will face restrictions between 6 am and 10 pm.
Heavy goods vehicles will be completely prohibited from using the Double-Decker flyover, which connects Silk Board and Ragigudda. Goods vehicles will not be allowed on the Electronic City elevated corridor between 6 am and 10 pm. Two-wheelers, passenger autorickshaws and goods autorickshaws will also be completely barred from the route.

While the restrictions on the BGS flyover, Peenya elevated corridor, International Airport flyover and Double-Decker flyover will come into force from September 4, the new rules for the Electronic City elevated corridor will take effect from September 11, according to the traffic police.
