Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) sees some of the city’s worst traffic. The stretch is a key IT hub and is known for its peak-hour jams. To tackle the issue, the traffic police have suggested staggered work hours and work-from-home options for tech companies along the ORR.

Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police Karthik Reddy told Bangalore Mirror that the move aims to reduce congestion between 9 am and 10 am. The police also recommended that companies allow work from home on Wednesdays to manage mid-week traffic. The proposal came up during a meeting with officials from BBMP, BMTC, and the traffic department. Key participants in the meeting also included the BBMP zonal commissioner, BMTC’s Chief Traffic Manager, and the Joint Commissioner of Traffic Police.

New Plans To Manage Traffic Jam Along The ORR

The discussion also covered other key directives. These included completing pending civil works around the ORR and setting up dedicated bus stands near major junctions. In response, BMTC agreed to deploy air-conditioned buses for tech park staff. Companies were also encouraged to arrange shuttle buses for their employees to improve connectivity.

To monitor Bengaluru traffic and ease congestion on ORR, the authorities also plan to install cameras for 3 consecutive days to track vehicle flow. IT companies and associations also shared their suggestions. They proposed strict enforcement of staggered work hours across all 6 working days along with the promotion of carpooling. IT companies also suggested deploying traffic marshals, and encouraging employees to volunteer as wardens during rush hours.

As per a report by Bangalore Mirror, the IT sector also requested a ban on heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) during peak hours. Plus, the companies also asked for advance notice for WFH days, especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so employees can plan ahead. Another key focus was illegal parking. Authorities requested a zero-tolerance policy for vehicles parked illegally near ORR junctions or inside tech campuses.
