Bengaluru Gets Its 1st Double-Decker Flyover At Silk Board Junction; To Offer Relief For Commuters

Great news from Bengaluru! The city’s first double-decker flyover on the Silk Board corridor has fully opened to motorists. The flyover is expected to reduce congestion between HSR Layout and Jayadeva Hospital by up to 80%, offering a sigh of relief to many. Here’s more on this recent development.

First Double-Decker Flyover In Bengaluru

According to The Hindu, the 5.1 km double-decker flyover is the first of its kind in Bengaluru. It connects Ragigudda, BTM Layout, and HSR Layout in the city. Reportedly, the flyover had been partially opened for motorists in 2025. However, a section from Silk Board Junction towards Ragigudda had remained non-operational. The flyover is now open to traffic, but a formal inauguration will take place later.

According to Oneindia, the newly opened section connects HSR Layout, BTM Layout, and Jayanagar. It offers a direct elevated route across one of Bengaluru’s busiest traffic zones. The ramps run beneath the Namma Metro’s Yellow Line and are designed to ease pressure on junction-level traffic. The flyover has been opened for trials for now. This will help officials assess traffic flow and safety.

Relief For Commuters In The City

According to News18, the opening of this double-decker flyover has sparked happiness among Bengaluru’s commuters. The reason is simple. For years, the Silk Board Junction has been known for heavy traffic congestion. People not only complained about it but also made jokes about the delays. Daily commuters, especially those working in tech hubs like Electronics City and Mahadevapura, often found themselves stuck for hours on this stretch.

According to The Times of India, a 3.5 km stretch that earlier took over 40 minutes can now be covered in under 10 minutes when travelling from HSR Layout to Ragigudda. The journey also removes the need to pass through five traffic signals. Naturally, the relief among commuters is natural. Their commute on this stretch is set to become much smoother now.
