Authentic Tibetan taste & super tender, Blue Poppy has momo flavours that shall make your mouth pop. Best part – it has multiple branches and it is pocket friendly too!
What Is It?
Kolkata is greatly influenced by Tibetan food and the delicacies from Sikkim. ‘Blue Poppy’ is one of the oldest and most loved outlets for the same! It has branches in central Camac-Russel Street areas as well as in Salt Lake and Lake Town. Actually a part of the ‘Sikkim House’ (Sikkim tourism quarters in Kolkata) itself, one can imagine that the food here cannot possibly be anything but authentic!
If you love your momos already and have still not given this place a go, you shall go gaga over what you’re about to discover…and yes you can thank us later! The perfect choice for first time eaters, try something new and give the beautiful Nepalese cuisine a go and rest assured to be blown away!
What’s In It?
Expect easy, comfortable and spacious interiors. The vibe is relaxed and super casual but mostly people are drawn here for the food and the authentic tastes itself rather than the ambiance. Expect quite a few local Calcuttans of Sikkimese origin enjoying their traditional dishes engrossed on their tables, devouring the food they love so much! So if you’re looking for a typically authentic Tibetan or Bhutanese meal, you can expect Blue Poppy to serve you just that.
Expect tons of spices and chefs woking up strong flavors with great care and passion! Speedy services that also make it great for a quick stopover or lunch break. Sometimes quite busy and buzzing with queues outside, they usually do not take reservations, and you have to take a token number and wait for your turn to come by. However, we say that the food and the flavors are so on point that a little wait is totally worth it!

What To Order?
The steamed momos are to die for (both vegetarian and chicken). There are many other places that stir up momos in the city, but the ones here are among the most delicately shaped with the thinnest of the shells that just melt in your mouth like a burst of flavors (don’t forget to pair them up with their extra spicy chilli sauce to give you that exciting heat rush).
Ever felt that nothing could possibly be spicy enough for you? Well, it’s time to try their Tom Yum soup (Indianized and a tad bit oily, but perfect for those super spicy cravings)! My other favorites are their chilli garlic noodles and chilli potato (dry). One of the most popular dishes though is the pan fried chicken momos. These are stir fried with a tangy sauce and are the very dreams that make so many drool.
For something even more authentic, try their thukpas. A dream for pork lovers, this place is an absolute must visit for all non veggies (try chilli pork and the pork momo).
What Else?
So yes, heart-warming, nostalgic, spicy, and bangs of flavour is what Blue Poppy screams of! Though they have increased their rates from before, this is still a budget friendly option considering the taste and the quality they swear by. Great for sleepovers or small gatherings, now you can also order online for your Indo-Chinese cravings!
