Its 10 MW solar plant, Telangana green grid, and rainwater harvesting system yield over 1.7 million m³ of reclaimed water annually. With all these measures, RGIA redefines eco-friendly aviation everyday. It has awards like Skytrax Best Regional Airport and ACI Green Airports Gold to its name as a celebration of its green legacy. 2. Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi (5,106 acres)
Delhi’s renowned Indira Gandhi International Airport handles a whopping 70 million passengers yearly (approx). Spread over 2,067 hectares, the airport features glorious interiors, four massive runways, lounge areas, shopping areas, and lots more. The longest runway of the airport is about 4,430 metres long. One of the strong suits of IGI is its advanced baggage handling (12,800 bags/hr) system. It also hosts one of the world’s lagerst indoor carpets at Terminal 3.
3. Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (4,000 acres)
Welcome to Bengaluru — this announcement is heard almost hourly at the picturesque 1,619 hectares airport. It mirrors Bengaluru’s innovative zeal and hustle culture with immense remarkability. It was one of the first airports to pioneer facial-recognition boarding in India and also boasts a ‘terminal in a garden’ with over 600,000 plants and exotic species.

4. Manohar International Airport (Goa MOPA) (2,132 acres)
Since its inception in 2023, Manohar International Airport in Goa has carved a niche for itself in the aviation business. Spread across 863 hectares, its broad and wide interiors delicately hold a seashell-inspired terminal, adding to the beauty of the place. It also features a full LED lighting system, that help save with 30% energy, and also have integrated wildlife corridors within the airport premises. At MOPA, modern design is blended with coastal ecology to create the perfect design.
5. Dabolim Airport, Goa (1,700 acres)
Dabolim is part civilian, part naval, and fully iconic! Sprawling around 689 hectares, it is one of the biggest airports in India and balances military training with civil operations. Did you know, a parallel taxiway was also added in 2017 to ease congestion at this airport?
6. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata (1,640 acres)
Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport sprawls around 664 hectares and is one of the biggest in India. Its terminal looks like a tea-motif and is an ode to the city’s love for tea. It boasts Asia’s largest cooling system, efficiently managing eastern India’s humid climate. A solar farm may also be in cards for the Kolkata airport soon, as developments are underway.
7. Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi (1,568 acres)
Named after the tribal leader Birsa Munda, this airport in Ranchi honours his contribution to the Indian independence movement. Serving 2.4 million passengers annually, Birsa Munda Airport is spread across 635 hectare space, and is one of the biggest airports in India. The terminal had undergone upgrade in 2013 and added four aerobridges, escalators, and cargo capability.
8. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai (1,500 acres)
Mumbai’s CSMIA handles 950+ flights daily, and covers 607 hectares of land. Art and architecture come together at its Terminal 2, designed by architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). With 208 check-in counters, 78 gates, and culturally rich design elements, it defines a new and vibrant space in the aviation sector.
9. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur (1,355 acres)
Nagpur’s airport spans 549 hectares and handled nearly 2.9 million passengers in FY25. Featuring two aerobridges and robust cargo operations, it is fast becoming a national logistics hub and is one of the biggest airports in India.
10. Cochin International Airport, Kochi (1,300 acres)
It was like Cochin set a global standard, and the rest of the world followed. It was the first fully solar-powered airport in the world. Its 50 MW solar plant covers 94 acres of land and generate more than the facility’s needs. The airport’s butterfly garden, hydroelectricity, and agri-photovoltaic projects lend a sustainable aura to the place. It is touted to be one of the busiest and the biggest airports in India by size.
