The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or the BMC plans on building yet another corridor. This particular corridor will be of an elevated kind and will be built over the Western Express Highway or the WEH. According to P Velrasu, who is the Municipal commissioner of projects, the tenders for this project will be floated after a detailed report of the project is submitted and then approved by the government.
BMC Plans To Build An Elevated Corridor Over Western Express Highway
This particular project is being undertaken in order to prevent the traffic congestion that the express highway currently suffers from. According to an article recently published by The Times of India, this particular project will increase the number of carriageways from 14 to 16 on both sides.
The article even mentioned that the DPR is expected to be made in the coming five to six months. In addition to having 16 lanes, the corridor will also incorporate underpasses so that the fast-moving vehicles on the highway remain unimpeded by the ones that are entering from arterial roads.
These underpasses, according to the article by TOI will be built at junctions like Kala Nagar, JVLR, and Aarey. These junctions will ensure a smooth flow of traffic without much interference.
Will Take Four Years To Complete
As per the authorities that will spearhead the project, it will take a total of four years to properly complete this project. The concept plan of the project was created by a consultant keeping in mind all the future development projects that might come up in the surrounding area.
The plan also takes into account future traffic projections. The elevated corridor that the concept design features is a total of 15.3 kilometres in length. It will also include railings that will separate the traffic on this corridor.
The article also mentions the possibility of the corridor including pedestrian-friendly features such as broad sidewalks as well as median spaces.
