BMC To Spend Almost ₹80 Crore To Have Mumbai Skywalks LIT Up!

You must have walked on the skywalks in Mumbai. How would you feel if they were all illuminated with LED strips and the like? Beautiful! Well, soon this will be a reality. The Brihanmumbai Mumbai Corporation is soon going to illuminate all  Mumbai skywalks. This is going to happen as a part of the Mumbai beautification program. The cost of this project will be around ₹79.68 crore. 

Illumination Of Mumbai Skywalks 

There are many skywalks in Mumbai, and BMC has divided them into different categories like A, B, C and D. Borivali, Andheri, Goregaon, Santacruz (East), Santacruz (West), Vile Parle, Ghatkopar (East), Ghatkopar (West), Bhandup, Sion, Cotton Green, Nana Chowk, and Wadala are among the locations with skywalks. All of these Mumbai skywalks will be illuminated category-wise. 

The skywalks at Borivali and Andheri fall under category A, and the bid to illuminate them is won by Electrocul Engineering. The cost to illuminate it is ₹20.58 crore, including tax. The same company won the bid for skywalks at Nana Chowk, Cotton Green, and Wadala that fall under category D. ₹17.14 crore, including tax, is the cost to illuminate these skywalks. The skywalks will be illuminated using flood lights, LED strips, and baton tubes.

Next Two Months Is The Deadline To Complete This Illumination

ASC Power Pvt Ltd. won the bid for illuminating category B of Mumbai skywalks. Category B includes the skywalks of Santacruz, Goregaon, and Vile Parle. The cost to illuminate these skywalks is  ₹18.05 crore, including tax. The same company will illuminate skywalks under category C.  The skywalks at Bhandup, Ghatkopar, and Sion come under category C and the cost to illuminate them is  ₹18.52 crore, including tax. 

The companies have been given a deadline of two months for the completion of the illumination. They will also be in charge of the maintenance for the next three years after the project is completed. BMC has also put some conditions on it, like charging ₹10,000 per week if the lights don’t work or are faulty.

Under the Mumbai beautification program taken up by the BMC, beaches, traffic islands, junctions, and skywalks will be beautified and illuminated. Repairing roads, flyovers, and footpaths also falls under this. BMC undertook this project at a cost of ₹1,705 crore.
