Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an important advisory to devotees regarding vulnerable bridges ahead of this year’s Ganesha processions. The BMC has identified 13 railway bridges in the city that are in a deteriorating condition, urging caution when crossing them. The bridges identified by the BMC are located along both the Central and Western railway lines. These structures have shown signs of wear and tear, making them potentially hazardous during the festive season.

– Curry Road Railway Over Bridge

– Arthur Road Railway Over Bridge (Chinchpokli Railway Over Bridge)

– Byculla Railway Over Bridge

– Shiv (Sion) Station Railway Over Bridge

On the Western Railway line, devotees should be particularly cautious on the following bridges:

– French Railway Over Bridge (between Grant Road and Charney Road)

The BMC has advised that these bridges should not bear excessive weight simultaneously. Devotees should avoid dancing or lingering on these bridges, especially with the use of loudspeakers. The BMC has encouraged festivities to take place only after crossing these bridges safely. In some cases, repair work is already underway, while for others, maintenance is scheduled post-monsoon.

The BMC’s appeal is clear: devotees should move swiftly and avoid unnecessary delays when crossing these structures. Congregating on these bridges could lead to dangerous situations, particularly if the structures are put under undue stress.

Devotees are also urged to follow the directions of both the police and BMC officials. These authorities will be present to ensure that the processions proceed safely across the identified bridges.

The BMC’s warning is not to be taken lightly. Mumbai’s railway bridges are vital to the city’s infrastructure, but their age and condition require careful management, especially during events that attract large crowds.
