On the 30th of June, Friday, the DMRC launched a mobile application called DMRC Travel. This app will make the process of buying tickets infinitely easier for passengers as they may do so even from the comfort of their homes, thus eliminating the need for standing in long queues.

It was launched by the Managing Director of the DMRC at the Metro Bhawan. This particular application is available for download on all Android platforms and will soon be available for iOS as well. This means that people who have an iPhone may not be able to access the app now but they soon will be able to.

The tickets purchased from the app will be QR-coded and will soon replace the tokens issued by the DMRC. It is important to note, however, that if a passenger’s phone gets misplaced or is switched off and the passenger is unable to produce the QR ticket for whatever reason, then they will have to purchase another ticket from the station’s customer care kiosk.

Apart from letting passengers buy tickets via their phones, this app also enables passengers to plan their trip in advance. Passengers can choose to pay via different payment methods, be it credit card, debit card, e-wallet, or UPI.

It also has a fare calculator, station information, as well as smart card recharge options. The DMRC is looking to systematically phase out the token system in the metro and this app is a step in that direction.
